Juhani Topias VESIKKALA

Juhani Topias VESIKKALA (*1990, Helsinki) is a Finnish-born composer, teacher, pianist, bassoonist, choral baritone singer and writer on music.

Vesikkala has studied composition at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, with Tapio Nevanlinna since 2009.

For the academic year 2012 – 2013 Vesikkala deepened their composition studies in Graz, Austria, with Prof. Beat Furrer and Pierluigi Billone. Since the end of 2013, Vesikkala is continuing a Master’s Degree in the Sibelius Academy with Prof. Veli-Matti Puumala.

Their current academic work includes investigating the multiphonic inharmonic flageolets on the piano, also from a compositional point of view.
The study will be published as their masters’ thesis at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki.
The results are aimed at fellow composers, with notational suggestions, for flexible use in compositions.

Also composing electroacoustic music, Daniel Mayer and Klaus Hollinetz count among Vesikkala’s teachers in Kunstuniversität Graz and Institut für Elektronische Musik (IEM).
